Church Reopening Procedures:

As we look forward to opening Mt. Gilead Church for a worship service, we have many guidelines and recommendations to consider. The leadership of Mt. Gilead is attempting to meet those of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church.

The common theme throughout these sources is care for those at high risk of severe illness or even death from this unpredictable disease. Care for each and every member of our congregation is of the utmost importance. So, while we yearn to have fellowship in worship, we recognize the need to proceed with caution. For anyone who is in a high-risk category, we understand if you choose to continue to watch the service from home. It will take all of us working together to keep each other safe.

On June 14th one worship service will be held at 9 AM in the church. At this time, only the worship service and the first floor of the church will be available. The service will continue to be video-taped and made available on Facebook and YouTube.

In order to protect all who attend the worship service, the guidelines will be as follows:
• Please wear your own face mask/face covering to enter the church and for the duration of the service. This requirement applies to everyone over the age of 2.
• If you would like to sit together as a family or other group, please meet in the parking lot and enter the building together. Due to the social distancing requirements, once seated we cannot rearrange or add others.
• Greeters/helpers will assist in directing you to the pews and maintaining “social distancing” of six feet between groups.
• In an attempt to reduce touching of surfaces, we will project information onto the screens and have offering containers near the doors. There will also be hand sanitizers near the doors.
• Due to the face mask requirement and difficulty hearing, please present any prayer requests to Pastor Dennis via email or phone call by Friday. They will be shared on the screens.
• Anyone who is experiencing any illness or symptoms, please continue to watch the service from home.
We recognize that worship and fellowship will be very different for the foreseeable future and these guidelines may be hard to follow, but this is a first attempt to gather safely together. We will continue to monitor the situation, and make changes as necessary.

We expect to need additional greeters/helpers during this time. If you are interested in helping, please contact the church office at 717-582-7905.
Please reply with a “Yes” to this email (or a phone call 1-717-979-0879 to Irene Wray), no later than June 9th, if you plan to attend the service on June 14th.

Thank you for your patience as we work through these challenging times – we remain united in spirit, even if we need physical separation to stay safe.

June 6, 2020

Hello Everyone!

I hope all of you are doing well and keeping your heart connected to the heart of God.  Over the past weeks I’ve been saddened by a lot that’s been happening.  I can’t imagine how challenging this time has been for our High School graduates of 2020.  The news has been filled with the hurt, division, and anger that is throughout our nation in so many ways.  Some close friends have lost loved ones to death and I could just go on.  There was so much that when I would quiet myself for prayer – I struggled to know where to begin.  I kept wondering, “What’s next?”  “What can I do?”

“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.  He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out upon us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.  This is a trustworthy saying.  And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good.  These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.”

Titus 3: 4 – 8

Now is the time for us to embrace the One who saved us.  To be filled with the Holy Spirit promised by Jesus our Savior.  A time for us to let God’s grace flow through us into this hurting and broken nation.  To place our trust and hope in God who is trustworthy and faithful.  Devoted to doing what is good and being the hands, the feet, and the voices of hope from Jesus.

May we continue to keep our hearts connected to the heart of God through prayer.  Pray for us as we prepare to gather for worship on Sunday, June 14.  We recognize that worship and fellowship will be very different for the foreseeable future as we follow the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church, but this will be our first attempt to gather safely together.  We will continue to record our worship for those who choose to remain at home.

We plan on recording worship for this Sunday, June 7, and having it uploaded on Facebook, the website and on YouTube.  The audio will be recorded and will be available for our homebound members.  A few of our homebound folks will be getting a DVD so they might view our worship.  We are planning to have the Children’s Moments recorded and uploaded too.  The links are as follows:

Once again, I want to thank all of you for the prayers as we continue through this very different journey.  I thank the team who has worked so faithfully to record and upload worship for all of us to participate.  May we all continue to embrace the love and faithfulness of our God!

Hello Everyone,

I hope that all of you are doing well and remaining safe as we continue walking this journey together.  Maybe you are like me and have those moments of wanting to get beyond where we are and need to be reminded that God is in control.  These are the moments when it’s good to affirm our faith and what we believe!   One way of doing that is reading or reciting the Apostles Creed.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

May Almighty God continue to lead us in the days to come.  May God grant us wisdom as we continue to look to when we can begin to worship together.  Council continues to plan on how to follow the CDC guidelines, including social distancing, to provide a safe environment for those who are desiring to worship in the sanctuary.  At the same time, we understand there will be those who will choose to remain safe and not gather at this time.  Our hope is to be able to continue recording and uploading worship online.   Please pray for God’s wisdom and guidance for us as we prepare and consider the next step in this process.  Information will be coming soon.

This week we plan on recording worship and uploading it on Facebook, the website and on YouTube.  The audio will be recorded and will be available for our homebound members.  A few of our homebound folks will be getting a DVD so they might view our worship.  We are planning to have the Children’s Moments recorded and uploaded too.  The links are as follows:

This week we continue our series, Season of Embracing—as we continue to look at grace.

We will be focusing on the following scripture, Hebrews 10: 23, 24 and 2 Peter 1: 3 & 4.

Just a reminder that during our worship on Sunday, May 31, we will be celebrating Holy Communion.  If you want to take part please have your bread or cracker, and grape juice available to share in that wonderful sacrament of our faith.

I leave with you the following words of Paul to Timothy.

“Guard what has been entrusted to your care.  Turn away from godless chatter

and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, which some have professed

and in so doing have departed from the faith.  Grace be with you all.”

1 Timothy 6: 20 & 21

Happy Mother’s Day!

I’m sure many of you will be celebrating Mother’s Day differently this year.  However you may celebrate I wanted to share the following poem of Helen Steiner Rice.

A Mother's love is something
that no one can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away . . .
It is patient and forgiving
when all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or falters
even though the heart is breaking . . .
It believes beyond believing
when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
of the rarest, brightest gems . . .
It is far beyond defining,
it defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
like the mysteries of creation . . .
A many splendoured miracle
man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence
of God's tender guiding hand.

One thing I remember about my mother is her faithfulness to always pray.  I want to encourage you to pray!  Continue to pray through this season of social distancing.  Pray for your mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and all the women of faith in our church family.  Pray for all who only have memories and long to see their mother once again.  Let us just be faithful to pray!

Pray for the team who will be recording worship once again.  We plan on recording worship and uploading it on Facebook, the website and on YouTube.  The audio will be recorded and will be available for our homebound members.  A few of our homebound folks will be getting a DVD so they might view our worship.  Once again, we plan on having the Children’s Moments recorded.  The links are as follows:

This week we continue our series, Season of Embracing—as we continue to look at grace.

We will be focusing on the following scripture, Mark 5: 24 – 34.

I do hope all of you are being safe and doing well.  Our prayers are with you and please let us know if there is something you need.  Thank you to all who continue to give to the ministry of Mt. Gilead.  I wanted to leave you with the following reminder from Psalm 111:

“Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them.
Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endure forever.
He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and compassionate.”

May God’s abiding presence and peace be with you all!

FYI: there are Large Print and Pocket Size Upper Room devotionals for May/June in the plastic box on the church porch.

Hello Everyone,

Once again the rain is pouring down, the wind is blowing, as I sit at the computer to write.  I’m sure there are some who are thinking, “God, why don’t you do something?”  This Corona virus and the restrictions on our life is not easy.  Well, God has.  God sent Jesus to save, rescue, redeem, and give us hope upon our journey of life.  Jesus is our Good Shepherd who knows our name.

“The shepherd calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.  When he has
brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him
because they know his voice.”
John 10: 3b – 4

May we all keep listening for the voice of Jesus?  Don’t be distracted by the news and the negativity of the voices of the world around us.  Spend time in the scriptures, God’s Words, which are a lamp unto our feet and light unto our path.  Take time to be quiet and listen for the voice of Jesus and connect your heart with God’s heart through prayer.  Stay focused on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of your faith, who will lead you through the darkest valley to the quiet waters that refreshes our souls.

We look forward to bringing the worship to you again this Sunday, May 3, 2020.  Pray for us as we are planning on recording worship and uploading it on Facebook, the website and on YouTube.  The audio will be recorded and will be available for our homebound members.  A few of our homebound folks will be getting a DVD so they might view our worship.  Once again, we plan on having the Children’s Moments recorded.  The links are as follows:

This week we continue our series, Season of Embracing – “I am Saved”

We will be focusing on the following scripture, Ephesians 2: 4 & 10, Acts 16: 25 – 30

I encourage you to keep praying, be safe, and . . .

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields
          and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
                        Amen.

April 26, 2020

Greetings Everyone,

April will soon be over as we continue to follow the guidelines for social distancing due to the COVID 19.  I hope everyone is doing well and being safe through this time.  I must confess this has been a long week and I’ve had moments of anxiety with all that’s been happening within the church family and my family.  Through it all I found the following in Psalm 91: 1 & 2:

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in who I trust.”

What a wonderful reminder of the mighty presence of our God who will shelter us in his loving arms in every situation.  May we all find that place of comfort as we seek the Lord upon this journey with the Corona virus.

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”  Jeremiah 29: 12, 13

Once again, we will be recording worship and uploading it on Facebook, the website and on YouTube.  The audio will be recorded and will be available for our homebound members.  A few of our homebound will be getting a DVD so they might view our worship.  Once again, we plan on having the Children’s Moments recorded.  The links are as follows:

This week we continue our series, Season of Embracing – “I am Loved”

We will be focusing on the following scripture, 1 John 5: 9 – 12

I want to thank the team who is helping to record our worship.  I want to thank many of you for the encouraging words and prayers for those making this possible every week.  I also want to thank all who continue to give to the ministries of Mt. Gilead.  May we continue to connect our hearts with God’s heart through prayer.  Let us continue to connect with our church family through phone calls and if someone has a need please share that with us.

We will be sending out a streamlined newsletter with this Communication from the Pastor.  We look forward to that time when we will once again be together.  Until then . . .

May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

March 28, 2020

Hello Everyone,

Grace and peace to all of you!

I hope this finds everyone staying safe and doing well!  Thank you for viewing and sharing the worship we recorded last week with so many people.  Now is the time for us to continue sharing the hope we have in God with those around us.  May we continue to shine and share the love of Christ in all that we do!

We have recorded worship for this Sunday, March 29, 2020.  I want to thank everyone who has helped us in this process of learning to share our time of worship on Facebook, the website and on YouTube.  The audio has been recorded and will be available for our homebound members.  We’ve learned so much and thank God for helping us share time with you in worship.  The worship will be available on the following links:

Facebook Link: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1541639649329926

Website: www.mtgileadumchurch.org/

YouTube: Link to video coming soon

I want to encourage you to remain faithful to pray as we continue walking through the coming days and weeks.  May we all connect our hearts with the heart of God. I’m reminded of the following quote on prayer from Corrie Ten Boom, “Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?”  May prayer be our steering wheel as we continue through this pandemic so filled with anxiety and fear.

Isaiah 41: 10  “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

If you have concerns or needs, please let us know.  When you have some free time call someone and check on them.  Together we remain united as the body of Christ as we take one day, one step, one moment at a time.

Be safe, and trust in God’s abiding presence as we go through these uncertain times.  May your hearts be encouraged and may we be united through Jesus, our Good Shepherd.

Blessings,

Pastor Dennis

March 26, 2020

Hello Everyone!

Grace and peace to all of you as we continue trusting God and faithfully pray for one another.  As I receive emails, texts, and see what people have uploaded to Facebook, I sense the fear and anxiety many of us have as we walk through these uncertain times.  I see how many have been laid off from their jobs.  Some who were expecting to have procedures or tests at the hospital, now have to wait.  Those in the hospitals and care facilities are not allowed to have family or friends visit.  Those who work in our grocery stores and hospitals continue to carefully work to meet and care for our needs.  Often,  I am moved to prayer . . . but . . . how do I pray when sometimes the words won’t come?

Thanks to a phone conversation I went searching and found the following verse . . .

“God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10: 13

My friends, may we faithfully pray as we place our trust in God.  May we be encouraged in knowing that God will guide us through this time.  May our hope be in Jesus who brings us the Victory as we walk by faith and not by sight.  In the coming days . . .

. . . May we faithfully shine and share the love of God in all that we do.

. . . May we continue to encourage and reach out to those who are most vulnerable to the Corona Virus through a phone call to see if they have any needs.  Let them know

someone cares.

. . . May we continue to faithfully pray for God to bring an end to the virus.

. . . May we faithfully pray for one another, our neighbors, our medical providers, care givers, the elderly, our children and youth, and our government leaders.

. . . May we continue to faithfully give and pray for the mission and ministry of Mt. Gilead.  Giving may be done by mail to the church at 935 Windy Hill Road, Shermans Dale,

PA 17090.

I look forward to when we can worship and fellowship together.  May we all find comfort in knowing the faithfulness of our God whose love unites us together!

Blessings,

March 18, 2020

Greetings Everyone,

Grace and peace to you on this day that our God of HOPE has given to us.  We are going through a time when many are filled with fear over the COVID-19 pandemic.
God said,
“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41: 10

Indeed, our lives have been affected by what is happening.  In the midst of the panic and fear we are reminded that OUR GOD IS WITH US, AND WILL BE WITH US, as we remain faithful. Together may we faithfully connect our hearts with the heart of God through prayer.

For the next two weeks we will be suspending all activities at Mt. Gilead through March 31.  This includes Worship, Calvary Adventurers, Bible Study, Sunday School, Lenten Meal and Study, Prayer and Healing Service, Prayer Retreat, etc.  This is a journey of Lent like many of us have never experienced before.  A time of embracing the blessing of being a Child of God.

. . . May we faithfully shine and share the love of God in all that we do.

. . . May we continue to encourage and reach out to those who are most vulnerable to the Corona Virus through a phone call to see if they have any needs.

. . . May we continue to faithfully pray for God to bring an end to the virus.

. . . May we faithfully pray for one another, our neighbors, our medical providers, care givers, the elderly, our children and youth, and our government leaders.

. . . May we continue to faithfully give to the mission and ministry of the church.  Giving may be done by mail or dropped off at the church office.
Office hours:    Monday 9:00 – 1:00      Wednesday 9:00 – 1:00

May we find hope and cling to God’s words to Joshua in preparing to cross the flooding Jordan,
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.  Be strong and courageous.”
Joshua 1: 5, 6

We are hoping to be able to record a time of worship that you will be able to access on our Facebook www.facebook.com/MtGileadUMC/ and our Website www.mtgileadumchurch.org/.

We also hope to have some different prayer reminders every few days going out on our email prayer chain.

Grace and Peace,
Pastor Dennis
